2022 BMW 2 Series price and specs
The next-generation BMW 2 Series will arrive in Australia late in 2021 with more power, more standard equipment, and a more serious price tag.
Two models will be offered Down Under: the entry-level 220i with rear-wheel drive and the all-wheel drive M240i xDrive.
Revealed in July 2021, the new 2 Series isn’t related to the 2 Series Gran Coupe. Instead, it’s closely linked to the 3 Series, with the same CLAR underpinnings and the same engines.
BMW also says it harkens back to the 2002, the compact rear-wheel drive sedan that brought it back from the brink in the 1960s. Although it hasn’t been revealed yet, we’re expecting an M2 to follow the current M240i xDrive range-topper.
Pricing
- 2022 BMW 220i: $59,900
- 2022 BMW M240i xDrive: $89,900
All prices exclude on-road costs.
Engines
Power in the 220i comes from a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 135kW of power and 300Nm of torque, good for a 7.5-second sprint to 100km/h.
It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
The M240i xDrive has a 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged petrol engine with 285kW of power and 500Nm of torque, good for a 4.3-second sprint to 100km/h.
It’s also automatic-only, but has all-wheel drive as standard.
Fuel Economy
BMW Australia hasn’t revealed local fuel economy figures for the new 2 Series.
Dimensions
Overall length measures 4537mm, while it’s 1838mm wide and 1390mm tall, on a 2741mm wheelbase.
Boot space is 390L with the 40/20/40 folding rear seats in place.
Completely unladen, a 220i weighs 1490kg and an M240i xDrive weighs 1690kg.
