Ora Funky Cat EV launched in the UK – Good Cat with a new name; 48 kWh battery, 193 km range; fr RM169k

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has officially launched the Ora Funky Cat in the United Kingdom, with sales of the electric vehicle set to commence in autumn this year. The Funky Cat is essentially a Good Cat (or Haomao) with a different name and will be offered in First Edition guise, priced at 30,495 British pounds (RM168,512) after the local government’s plug-in car grant (PiCG).

The Funky Cat First Edition will come with a 48-kWh lithium-ion battery that is good for a range of 193 km following the WLTP standard. The battery powers a front electric motor rated at 171 PS (169 hp or 126 kW) and 250 Nm, allowing for a 0-100 km/h time of 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 159 km/h (where the law permits).

For charging, the EV supports a maximum AC input of up to 11 kW (Type 2 connection), which requires around three to four hours to get from a 15-80% state of charge. There’s also DC fast charging up to 80 kW (CCS2 connection), which further shortens the charging time down to around 40 minutes.

Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, two 10.25-inch displays (instrument cluster and infotainment), leatherette seats, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, LED headlamps, a 360-degree camera, a wireless phone charger, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, powered front seats and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

As for safety and driver assistance systems, the Funky Cat First Edition gets a blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, lane keep assist with lane centring function, rear cross traffic alert with emergency brake and autonomous emergency braking.

Customers will have four colour variations to choose from, which were selected based on a poll held by the company earlier this year. For cars with a black interior, options include a Nebula green and Starry black exterior, while Mars red (red and grey interior) and Aurora green (green and grey interior) are also available – the latter two come with a black or white contrasting roof.

GWM also provides a five-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty and eight-year, 100,000-mile (160,934-km) battery warranty with each Funky Cat purchased. The company also claims its service intervals of every two years/18,000 miles (28,968 km) are on par with best-in-class competitors.

As of now, there are over 6,000 registrations of interest for the Funky Cat, which will be offered through physical retailers as well as the Ora Online sales platform later in August. For those who want to gain priority access to stock when it arrives, customers can take advantage of the Queue Jump scheme for a GBP100 (RM553) refundable fee, although places are limited.
